The Tucker's farm was quiet; the hens laid, the cows gave milk, and now and then a car would stop at the little farm stand out front. Then one day, the peacock showed up.

He had no idea what to do on a farm so he wandered down to the road and strutted his stuff, like peacocks do.  All of a sudden a LOT of cars were stopping! And when they stopped to see the peacock, they were buying milk and eggs and produce too! Yay!

The hens, however, were not happy.  They did all the work laying the eggs while the peacock got all the attention!  The peacock heard them complaining and he felt sad, thinking he wasn't being helpful around the farm.

The old hound dog suggested that the hens and the peacock try switching jobs for a day. What a great idea! The hens get all gussied up in their best finery and the peacock readies himself to lay eggs.

I like this book because it lets children know that no one is good at everything but everyone is good at something.  I love Henry Cole's illustrations! The picture of the hens in their finery made me laugh right out loud. : )

You can't go wrong with Three Hens and a Peacock.  It's fun and funny and has a good message too.
